Do I Need to Know How to Sing to Make an AI Cover?

No. VibeSing clones your speaking voice and sings the song for you. Pitch, breath control, and range still help quality — they are not a gate.

No. Speaking is enough to start.

You do not need to be able to sing the song. You do not need range, vibrato, or karaoke confidence. VibeSing's studio asks you to read a few short English prompts in your natural voice. That recording is what the model learns. The song is sung by the model, using your timbre on top of the original vocal's melody and timing.

If you can leave a voicemail, you can make an AI cover.

What "not being a singer" actually costs you

The clone will still sound like you. A quiet, conversational speaking voice will not suddenly belt like Lady Gaga. A high, light speaking voice will not drop into The Weeknd's chest register without help from the pitch-shift toggle.

That is a feature for gifts and jokes — the point is recognition ("wait, that's you?") not a fake conservatory recital. It is a limit if you were hoping the AI would replace a skill you do not have. It replaces the performance of that specific song. It does not invent a different singer.

When a little singing in the sample helps

You still do not have to sing the song. You can put a bit of melody into one of the three samples if you want the model to hear how you sound when you actually try — a soft hum, a line in your comfortable range. That helps most when the track you want sits far from your speaking pitch. See speaking voice vs singing voice conversion and picking a song in your natural vocal range.

If the first cover comes back thin on high notes, record one extra sample that actually reaches toward that range rather than starting over. How many samples you need covers that loop.

Karaoke vs AI cover

Karaoke still asks you to sing live, in time, in key. An AI cover asks you to record once, then listen. If you like the scoring-and-stage version, that is a different product — AI cover vs karaoke. If you want the "that's my voice on the radio song" version without the performance anxiety, you are in the right place.

Open the studio. Read the prompts in your normal voice. Skip the audition energy.
