What Is AI Singing?

The short version

AI singing is any vocal performance produced by a model instead of a human recording those exact notes. The umbrella is wide. It includes:

• Text-to-song (or lyrics-to-vocal) systems that invent a melody and a singer from a prompt.
• Singing synthesis from a score: notes and lyrics in, vocal audio out, often with a stock voice.
• Singing voice conversion: take an existing sung performance, keep the musical content, swap the identity to a trained voice model.

Colloquially, people also say "AI singing" for auto-tuned live singing, or for a cloned speaking voice forced onto a pop mix. Those are related, not identical.

Two products hiding under one search

If you type "AI singing app" you will get Suno-like generators and cover apps. They solve different jobs.

Generator: you do not start with Flowers. You start with a paragraph. The output is a new (or new-ish) track. Great for "make something that sounds like a song." Useless if the whole point was that chorus in your voice.

Cover / conversion: you start with a real recording. The arrangement stays. The lead vocal becomes a model. That is what an AI cover song is. VibeSing lives here. There is no lyric prompt, no "write me a song about my dog," no celebrity timbre picker.

AI karaoke is a third marketing phrase, usually meaning "I want to hear myself on a famous track without singing it live." Same job as a cover app. Not a scoring machine.

What still has to be true for it to sound like singing

Melody, timing, consonants on the beat, a little instability so it does not feel like a MIDI trumpet. Conversion systems borrow those from the source vocal. Synthesis systems have to invent them. That is why a speaking-only clone on VibeSing can still ride Espresso, and why the same clone may struggle on a belted ballad the source singer leans into — the model has your timbre, not a new set of lungs.

Language is a separate trap. Samples are English prompts. The song can be Korean; the consonants may not. Can AI sing in another language?
